Chebe powder became really popular in the kinky hair world a few years back after a video of Chadian women with extremely long and curly tresses was made into a documentary.

 

Karkar oil also became an add on to Chebe Powder; both marketed as wonder natural products for kinky hair growth.

 

Before we talk about their efficacy, let’s get down to their origin. Chebe powder is made from two plants; Croton Zambesicus ( Lavender Croton) and Croton Gratissimus (Lavender Feverberry). Very strange names, right? Croton Zambesicus is found in almost all parts of West Africa; Ghana, Nigeria, and The Gambia and Burkina Faso.

 

Croton Gratissimis is also found in the West and South of Africa. However, what is now known as Chebe powder originated from Chad. The Chadian women discovered its benefits and began applying it to their hair. The plant is roasted, ground, and sieved to derive Chebe powder.

Karkar oil originates from South Sudan. It’s made of sesame seed oil and beeswax that’s melted together to form a rich, nutritiously thick oil. Rich in linoleic acid, it also contains vitamins E and K, both essential for strong hair growth.
Some of its other key components include copper, manganese, magnesium, iron, and zinc. Sudanese women, known globally for their sparkly skin and hair, use Karkar oil not only as a hair treatment but a body moisturizer, too.

Now to the question, can these natural products grow hair?

What Chebe Powder does is lock in the moisture of your hair and stops it from breaking. While it may not necessarily grow it, you would agree retaining moisture and halting hair breakage is a huge plus to your hair growth journey. Also, after using Chebe Powder, your hair is easier to style as it becomes soft and pliable.

 

Karkar Oil works tremendously for dry, itchy, and flaky scalps. It also prevents hair loss, hair breakage, and repairs dry and damaged hair.

 

So these two products with consistent use have the ability to fix some of the major problems that prevent hair from growing.

How to apply Chebe Powder and Karkar Oil

 

1. In a bowl, mix 3 spoons of Chebe Powder and Karkar Oil (adjust to the length of your hair) and stir till you get a soup-like consistency.

 

2. Wash, condition, and partition your hair to braid sizes.

 

3. Work the Chebe Powder and Karkar Oil mixture into your hair from root to tip.

 

4 Braid your hair up and leave for about 3 days to allow the nutrients deep in.

 

5. Rinse your hair normally and repeat the procedure.
