DJ Switch may have fled the country but it hasn’t stopped her from speaking out.
DJ Switch real name Obianuju Udeh live-streamed the shooting of peaceful #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki Toll Plaza on October 20th. Since then, the Nigerian government has denied the shooting. That didn’t stop Switch from receiving threats to her life that caused her to flee the country.
But she hasn’t stopped speaking the truth to power even at the expense of her career.
She recently gave an interview to TIME’s magazine where she shared details of her journey since the shooting. She told the magazine she’s still traveling, living out of her backpack for safety reasons.

Dj Switch also shared how hurt she was that the Nigerian Government is trying to deny the shootings which she saw claimed lives.
“Very soon, we will be presenting our cases in courts that matter, in courts that have the power to bring justice to powerful people. That is where my focus is,” she said. Naming those who lost their lives at the Lekki Toll Gate as the real heroes Nigerians need to keep fighting for, she added “I want to be grateful that I’m alive, but at the same time, I feel awkward that I’m alive. I will not waste this second chance to live by being a coward or hiding, even if it rips my dreams to shreds”
