Google is indulging our search page with more fun… again. This time, they are commemorating the 80th anniversary for the classic fantasy film, Wizard of Oz. Google is paying its tribute with a very glamorous Easter egg. The surprise feature reflects the turbulent ways Dorothy Gale enters and exits Oz.

To get into the spiral of classic wizardry, you need to visit the search page on Google. Search for Wizard of Oz and a sparkly pair of red shows will appear on the far right. Tap on it and it will spin you into a sepia world. It sort of draws you into Dorothy’s version of the city of Kansas. This will be accompanied by a hypnotic echo of “there is no place like home.”

After the spin, the slippers icon turns into a tornado in the sepia colour mode. However, a click on the tornado will be accompanied by the theme song. Another swirl will then bring you back to the world of colour and the glittery slippers will replace the tornado. It can cause a bit of dizziness if you keep going but well worth it.

Desktop and mobile users are welcome to try it. However, it probably has just a few hours to go as the anniversary was yesterday, August 25. The film was a one hour fifty-two minutes, 1939 classic.

The character of Dorothy Gale was played by Judy Garland. She played a girl from Kansas who had the dreams of going above the rainbows. She had her dog Toto made an enemy with the Wicked Witch of the west. The witch then sent her to a magical world through a tornado. However, she was able to get a pair of sparkly red shoes.

The Wizard of Oz won many awards including the Academy Awards for the song Over The Rainbow.
