Few months after HBO Max released Zack Snyder’s “Justice League,” the director blesses film lovers with “Army of the Dead”.
“Army of the Dead” is centred on a zombie outbreak that devastates Las Vegas. Scott Ward (Dave Bautista) is approached by casino boss Bly Tanaka (Hiroyuki Sanada) with a dangerous proposal. The plan is to break into a zombie-infested quarantined zone to retrieve $200 million sitting in a vault before the city is nuked by the government in 32 hours.
With the plan that the payoff could help pave the way to a reconciliation with his estranged daughter Kate (Ella Purnell), Scott accepts the proposal and assembles a ragtag team of experts for the heist.
The team is made up of Maria Cruz (Ana de la Reguera), an ace mechanic and Ward’s old friend; Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick), a zombie killing machine; Marianne Peters (Tig Notaro), a helicopter pilot; Mikey Guzman (Raúl Castillo) and Chambers (Samantha Win).

In Scott’s ride-or-die team the casino’s head of security Martin (Garret Dillahunt); a Coyote (Nora Arnezeder). The Coyote in turn recruits Burt Cummings (Theo Rossi), a slimy security guard while Scott recruits a brilliant German safecracker named Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer).
He ( Scott) however gets to a crossroads when Kate joins the expedition to search for Geeta (Huma S. Qureshi), a mother who’s gone missing inside the city. While they try to meet the 32 hours deadline, a notoriously impenetrable vault, and zombies closing in, they will have to abandon their quest for $200 million and save their lives.
“Army of the dead” brings a newer perspective to the world of zombies. In the film are alpha zombies who have a queen ( Athena Perample)and king (Richard Cetrone) and an organized community they protect. These Zombies are ready to take their pound of flesh from humans who dare to stand in their way. Zack Synder wants to make us believe that Zombies can also procreate, and even hibernate, living normal lives as though they were still alive.
Zack Synder gave his fans a full dose of suspense and if you think this film is predictable from the first few minutes then get ready to be disappointed.
“Army of the dead” may have come with some scary moments but it also comes with some life lessons. The film brings to light the sacrifice of parenthood, as Scott is ready to give his life for his daughter. Members of the heist team also look out for each other even at their own expense.
If you are a Zack Snyder fan, head on to Netflix to see this film.
