YouTube has apologised after it admitted to removing hundreds of cryptocurrency-related Accounts “in error”.
Many YouTubers had apparently gotten notifications that their videos were in breach of the video platform’s terms of service.
The move was seemingly targetting smaller channels and publishers focusing on Bitcoin and crypto-currency content. The video-sharing platform has since realised its mistake.
Meanwhile, some crypto-bloggers still complain that their videos are not yet back up after several days.
“This is a huge wake-up call, and I’m researching decentralised alternatives,” says, Chris Dunn, who has more than 200,000 subscribers on YouTube.
The Vloggers took to Twitter to share their frustrations after many of the bigger channels claimed that YouTube had been ignoring their complaints.

Founder of Nugget’s News, Alex Saunders, also told followers that the incident felt “really scary,” claiming YouTube was failing to communicate with its users.
Tweeting with his handle, he said:
“Hi @TeamYouTube, with over 100 videos removed and two strikes in 24 hours I have still not even received an email from you. This is really scary. We’ve hired new staff. I have a wife and baby to support. I can’t fix the problem if I don’t know what I’ve done or who to communicate with?”
Wrong call removing cryptocurrency-related accounts
Several other crypto-bloggers made similar complaints like Alex’s above. Some suggested that it was best to boycott the platform completely.
YouTube, however, agreed that it had been in the wrong. Its statement included an admittance of making the wrong call while assuring users that it will reinstate any content mistakenly removed.
“With the massive volume of videos on our site, sometimes we make the wrong call,” the google-owned company said.
It added:
“When it’s brought to our attention that a video has been removed mistakenly, we act quickly to reinstate it.”
The video platform says there are no changes to its policies. It also insists that it will apply “no penalty” to any of the affected channels.
