You Could Be Going To Space Soon Thanks To SpaceX’s Tourist Flights Initiative

SpaceX has made arrangements to send at least four customers, who can afford to pay, to space aboard its Crew Dragon space vehicle. According to a Bloomberg article, the space company had reached an agreement with authorities to do this.

Despite Crew Dragon being built for ferrying US astronauts into space, it will now be able to offer people private flies as well. Space Adventures is a major booking agent based in Washington D.C. and it seemed it will handle the private space voyages.

However, the agency did not specify the price for the private orbital flights when it announced the arrangement on 18th February 2020.

In February 2019, the company had also previously arranged several tourist flights aboard Russia’s Soyuz spacecraft.

SpaceX President Gwynne Shotwell revealed in a statement:

“This historic mission will forge a path to making spaceflight possible for all people who dream of it, and we are pleased to work with the Space Adventures’ team on the mission.”

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) had contracted both SpaceX and Boeing Co. to fly tourists into space. Tourists would fly from the earth to the International Space Station.

Boeing is popular for its space explorations. It has been enabling critical research on the International Space Station (ISS) that benefits the future space economy, deep-space exploration and life on Earth.

It also returns crew launch capabilities to U.S. soil with the CST-100 Starliner commercial spacecraft; ensuring successful delivery to Earth’s orbit with the United Launch Alliance (ULA) joint venture between Boeing and Lockheed Martin; and building heavy-lift, human-rated propulsion to deep space with the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.

While Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (trading as SpaceX) is a private American aerospace manufacturer and space transportation services company. Elon Musk owns this company based in Hawthorne, California. Its goal is reducing space transportation costs to enable the colonization of Mars.

SpaceX’s Crew Dragon will double as a tourism ship as Space Adventures reported. Soon, those who can afford would be going to the International Space Station.
