“Yoruba Movie Industry Started The Movie Business In Nigeria“- Jide Kosoko

Veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko has revealed that the Yoruba movie industry started the movie business in Nigeria.“Yoruba Movie Industry Started The Movie Business In Nigeria“- Jide KosokoThe actor made the assertion at the recent press conference of The Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN)

He said so while addressing Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing’s involvement in Baba Ijesha’s r**e case.

“Yoruba films are what we’re supposed to even call Nollywood because Yoruba accounts for at least 72 per cent of Nigeria’s movie output as a whole. It’s a factor you can’t dismiss. We started the movie business in Nigeria.

“That was before others saw what we were doing, acknowledged that it could fetch money, and then dived in. Today, we’re all together: Nollywood Igbo, Nollywood Yoruba, Nollywood English. We’re all Nollywood all the same.”

Jide Kosoko during a chat with Vanguard Newspapers in April revealed that was God’s divine plan for him to marry six wives.

The 66-year-old actor shared he got married as a young man to two women and they died in childbirth. He then had to marry more wives to fill the gap they left.

“I never envisaged being a polygamist though I am a product of one. My parents didn’t support it either. My first wife was a businesswoman. I craved for somebody who was in the same field as me,” he said.

“In those days, the best advice you can get is from your better half and that was how the second woman came to be. Along the line, I lost the two to childbirths within 11 months interval. I had seven children at that time, so I didn’t plan to remarry or have more children again.

But after much persuasion from my doctor and relatives, I decided to have a woman with the agreement of not having more children but a complete African woman will not agree to that. One thing led to the other and I got two women again. So being a polygamist is not intentional but God’s design which I do not have a right over.” He added.
