Redmi has released its first smartwatch launching in China for about $45. This is Xiaomi’s budget sub-brand first foray into smartwatches and it is to hit the markets come 1st December 2020.

The Redmi smartwatch has a 1.4-inch rectangular display with curved glass. The screen has a square form factor, 320 x 320 resolution, and can automatically adjust its brightness according to ambient lighting conditions. It comes in a variety of colours like black, white, and blue color variants. The silicone strap is also available in black, white, blue, green, and pink.

The watch has a single button on the side, with the touch screen responsible for all other touch action. It can also be controlled via the Mi Fit app on a paired smartphone. Pairing the smartwatch with the Mi Fit app gives you the option of customising it with over 120 watch faces.

The smartwatch has capabilities like NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, a heart rate monitor, and is waterproof up to 50m. The company claims that the battery can last for up to 7 days, or 12 days if it’s in a power-saving mode.  It also comes pre-installed with several fitness modes and can monitor your heart rate continuously.

The display is sadly not OLED and the UI and the watch faces feature a dominant use of black backgrounds, however, that is unsurprising due to its cost. Redmi unveiled the smartwatch alongside the new Redmi Note 9 smartphones and it will soon be available in the US.
