Xiaomi Teases Its Next Flagship Phone For A December 28 Launch

Xiaomi 12 is the phone maker next flagship and it will be launching on December 28, after there have been leaks of the flagship. The company made the announcement via its Weibo account with an image of the Chinese model Su Bingtian.

This is the first time, the tech company will be retiring the “Mi” branding after 10 years of usage. The Xiaomi 12 series may first see a Chinese market launch just like the Mi 11, with a global launch in February next year.

The Chinese company is currently the second biggest Android phone manufacturer in Europe and only second behind Samsung in the world. This is majorly due to the Huawei ban in the American market and supply constraints. Xiaomi has aggressively leveraged the opportunity, meeting the demand for the shortfalls.

Xiaomi is letting go of its “Mi” product naming scheme, in order to unify its brand name. First reported by XDA Developers, the name “Xiaomi” will be replacing the “Mi” brand. According to CEO Lei Jun, “Mi” stands for two things “Mobile internet” and “Mission Impossible”.

While the Xiaomi name translates to “millet” and “Xiao” means “small.” This describes the company’s progress, focusing on small things and then expanding to a conglomerate. The parent company now has 3 companies offering different smartphones for every segment.
