Worldwide Developers Conference 2021: Apple Unveils iOS 15 And More

Apple’s Worldwide developer’s conference WWDC 2021 keynote ended yesterday with big announcements in the form of iOS 15, Spatial Audio, the new macOS, Monterey, big improvements to FaceTime, etc.

The Worldwide Developers Conference(WWDC) saw a new OS for iPhones “iOS 15” with a new spatial audio effect for FaceTime, the companies proprietary video call application. You can hear audio from the people you call exactly from their head movements.

Monterey is the name of Apple’s next macOS release, it has a new feature where the same mouse and keyboard can be used across your own Mac and iPad.

Safari on the Mac gets a new tab design and tabs can now be in groups, yeah copying Chrome? You can reach the tab bar on iOS as it will now be at the bottom. This new update also sees web extensions coming to iOS and iPadOS. Widgets are also coming to iPad with iPadOS 15 after it debuted on iPhone with iOS 14.

A new “sharePlay” feature was announced that lets you share media with users on Facetime, a redesigned weather app, notification got a new look, and more.

 

Apple is also adding Music and video sharing into Facetime, as you can now share a playlist with someone while facetiming them. Apple’s new share play feature will also be available to developers as an API so they can build apps that support it.

In the United States, you will soon be able to use your iPhone as a means of identification at the airport. You will be able to store your ID in a digital form via Apple’s wallet.

The Cupertino company added new privacy features to Mail and Safari. Apple web browser will be able to hide IPs. A new section in settings called the “App Privacy Report” helps track privacy on all your apps.

Apple will be using Artificial intelligence to read all text in your photos, a feature Google Pixel phones have had for a very long time. Apple names it “on-device Intelligence”.

Siri the voice assistant will be able to work offline with on-device speech recognition, voice requests will be processed.

Apple updated its iWatch OS to the number “8”, it has new health features, improvements to the Photos watchface, and a new Mindfulness app.

The Health app gets some updates as family members and healthcare providers will be able to see health data shared by users.

Apple is targeting the “Smart Homes” market hard, by allowing third-party accessory makers to add Siri as a voice assistant to their devices. The company showed this on an Ecobee thermostat during its presentation.

Are you always losing your AirPods? Apple is making some changes to Airpods; making them easier to find on the “Find My Network”.

Apple’s iCloud gets serious security updates, a new private relay service; and also a feature that creates burner emails called “Hide My Email” All new features; offered at no additional cost to users on its iCloud Plus subscription.

As usual, Apple is playing “Catch Up” with some of these new features; although they have a knack for perfecting them. At least, we now have them on our Apple devices, can’t wait to try them out.
