Nigerian Afrobeats musician Wizkid has revealed it was international pop star Justin Bieber who approached him to make a remix of his global hit record “Essence.”
Justin Beiber’s remix of the song made “Essence” even a bigger hit in the US. The remix is currently occupying the number 9 position on the Billboard Hot 100.
Wizkid speaking in an interview with American publication Complex said it was Bieber who asked to jump on the song.
“He reached out to me and he loved the record. He sent the verse and it was just fire,” Wizkid told Complex.
“We linked up and we performed it together. We got some more music together as well.”

Meanwhile, “Essence” earlier this month was certified Platinum in the US by the RCA after it hit over 40,000 sales in the country.
The record-breaking feat makes it the first Nigerian song to be certified Platinum in America. Wizkid and Tems received the platinum plaque each for “Essence” on Monday after Wizkid’s show on Sunday night October 4th, 2021 at the NOVO event space in Los Angeles. The two also performed together at the event.
“Essence” is the 11th track off “Made In Lagos”, Wizkid’s fourth studio album, which was released in October 2020 and features Tems.
The track has so far enjoyed widespread acceptance from music lovers. It has also become the highest-charting Nigerian song on the Billboard Hot 100.
