Nigerian afrobeats icons Wizkid, Femi Kuti, Made Kuti, and Burna Boy has been nominated for the 2022 Grammys.
The Recording Academy revealed the nominations for the 2022 Grammy Awards in a live stream on Tuesday 23rd November.
Wizkid was nominated in the “Best Global Music Performance” category for “Essence”, his collaborative song with Tems.
In October “Essence” was certified Platinum in the US by the RCA after it hit over 40,000 sales in the country.
Meanwhile, in July, the song broke records climbing by 23 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 to hit 59th place.
In a surprise move, Wizkid then released a remix to the global hit, featuring Canadian pop star Justin Bieber.
Also nominated in the category is “Pa Pa Pa” by Femi Kuti and “Do Yourself” by Angelique Kidjo and Burna Boy.

Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos’ album and ‘Legacy +” by Femi and Made Kuti were put up in the “Best Global Music Album” category.
The 2022 Grammys’ main event will air on 31st January 2022, at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on the CBS Television Network.
The award show will also be available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.
Last year, “Twice As Tall”, Burna Boy’s body of work, became the first Afrobeats album to win a Grammy award.
Wizkid also won a 2021 Grammy for “Best Music Video” following his work in Beyonce’s “Brown Skin Girl”.
