Robyn Crawford has finally broken years of silence as she reveals all in a new memoir called A Song for You: My Life with Whitney Houston. She is allegedly a lesbian lover the late singer had a year-long love affair with. Prior to their love affair, they had met as teenagers before she became popular. Thereafter, she worked with Houston for 15 years. However, they split around 2000 after which Houston started her struggle with drug addiction.
A documentary released last year, titled Whitney: Can I Be Me, detailed her bi-sexuality. Their relationship was revealed as fact. But it was also argued that Whitney found it impossible to maintain a relationship with Crawford. This was blamed on the fact that she felt pressured into maintaining her public image and couldn’t come out.
Her bodyguard also revealed how Robyn Crawford and Bobby Brown would have physical fights over their love for the singer. The intensity of the feud is one of the reasons Whitney exiled her from her life.
During an interview with US Weekly in 2016, Whitney Houston’s ex-husband, Bobby Brown, expressed his opinion on her sexuality. He confirmed that Houston had a relationship with Crawford.
In addition, he opined that she would probably be alive if her family had approved of her coming out as bisexual. “I really feel that if Robyn was accepted into Whitney’s life, Whitney would still be alive today. She didn’t have close friends with her anymore,” he said.
A Song for You: My Life with Whitney Houston Memoir
In the memoir, she writes about her relationship with the late Whitney Houston. The memoir, set for release on 5th November 2019, will reveal “the moving and often complicated story of her life and relationship with Whitney.”
Robyn Crawford is a ‘trusted and loyal friend’ to Houston, as the description states. She “has stayed out of the limelight and held the great joys, wild adventures and hard truths of her life with Whitney close to her heart.”
Her publisher, Dutton, says,
“With warmth, candour, and an impressive recall of detail, Robyn gives readers insight into Whitney’s life and career. She traces the years from when she and Whitney first met as teenagers in the 1980s to the recording of Whitney’s first album and the infinite success that followed.
“From countless sold-out world tours to her epic rendition of the US national anthem to the set of The Bodyguard, her tempestuous marriage, and the birth of her only child, Robyn was there.
“Finally, the person who knew her best sets the record straight.”
The memoir is named after a Houston cover of a Leon Russell single.
“A SONG FOR YOU” LYRICS
“I’ve been so many places in my life and time
I have sung a lot of songs I’ve made some bad rhyme
I’ve acted out my love in stages
With ten thousand people watching
But we’re alone now and I’m singing this song for you
I know your image of me is what I hope to be
I’ve treated you unkindly but darling can’t you see
There’s no one more important to me
Daring can’t you please see through me
Cause we’re alone now and I’m singing this song for you
You taught me precious secrets of the truth withholding nothing
You came out in front and I was hiding
But now I’m so much better and if my words don’t come together
Listen to the melody cause my love is in there hiding
I love you in place where there’s no space or time
I love you for in my life you are a friend of mine
And when my life is over remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you
We were alone and I was singing this song for you”
