WhatsApp Working On Increasing Number Of Voice And Video Call Participants

WhatsApp is allegedly set on bringing a new feature that will allow more than four people to participate in a voice or video call session. The company has not revealed the new limit yet.

While everyone is staying at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, virtual communications have become an important part of day-to-day life. Thankfully, tech firms know this and they keep working to make these tools more efficient.

Needless to say, you must have found yourself using one of the traditional video conferencing software. There are Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Hangouts Meet and a host of other unpopular ones.

Yet, while these video conferencing tools have seen a massive surge, chat apps have not been left behind. In fact, it is the opposite. There are more people using popular chat tools daily now than there were in previous months.

Facebook, for example, saw an increase in the number of users since the pandemic started. CNET reports that there was a 70% increase in those using its video chat features.

Thus, WhatsApp likely wants its share in the video conference market as it sets to increase the number of voice and video call participants. Tech Crunch had revealed that WhatsApp is the social media platform that saw the largest increase due to COVID-19.

However, this is obviously not enough as the company now wants people to also rely on it for small scale meetings or family virtual gatherings. According to WABetaInfo, the increase would allow a maximum of between 6 to 12 people to join WhatsApp calls.

This would be a good increment as only four people can currently be on a WhatsApp call — this includes the caller.

For now, the only information we have on this is that the new maximum number will be an even number within the range mentioned above. Also, WhatsApp will roll out the feature first for users who use either the current versions of its iOS or Android app.

There are many features that users still wait for WhatsApp to roll out. But its quick limiting of the forwarding feature to stem the spread of false information about the coronavirus is commendable.
