WhatsApp to let you leave group quietly

WhatsApp is working on a feature that lets users exit a group without alerting other members of the departure. The stealth mode exit will be a welcome development for many who have found themselves stuck in a group that they don’t want to be in and can’t leave to avoid hurting the feelings of others.

Although there is no official announcement surrounding this feature, it was spotted on the WABetaInfo forum as a work in progress. The feature joins a couple of improvements that the chat platform has been working on to make its ‘Groups’ offer, one of the app’s best products.

As a screenshot of the feature shows, only the user and the group admin will be notified of their departure.

There will be no need for the whistleblowing “so and so person left” message on the group. Although, it is not immediately clear if this is a default feature or a special one that users need to pick.

However, WABetaInfo says that WhatsApp is planning to release it on its desktop version first before rolling it out for iOS and Android users. This method has become a habit for the Meta-owned app in recent times and it is quite understandable because the desktop version of the platform is easily updatable and improvements can be effected or removed without much hassle.

Before the stealth mode group exit launches, you may need to familiarise yourself with other updates that the company has rolled out for Groups.
