Wentworth “Scofield” Miller Quits Prison Break, Says He Will Now Only Play Gay Characters

Wentworth Miller, star actor of Prison Break has announced he is officially quitting the series.

Wentworth Miller played the role of Michael Scofield in the hit Fox series. In a post on Instagram, he stated he won’t be returning in any future seasons of the series as he will no longer play straight characters.

In January, Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn hinted that a new season was on the way. This was after a successful return in 2017. Officially.”

He added: “I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told).

He acknowledged the news might be “disappointing” for fans and said he was “sorry”, but continued: “If you’re hot and bothered because you fell in love with a fictional straight man played by a real gay one, that’s on you.”

Dominic Purcell, who played Miller’s on-screen brother, Lincoln Burrows, wrote: “It was fun mate. What a ride it was. Fully support and understand your reasoning. Glad you have made this decision for your health and your truth.”

Sarah Wayne Callies, who played his character’s wife, Sara Tancredi, said: “With gratitude for all the work we did together, & with deep love, I’m voicing my support for that choice.”

 

Meanwhile, Wentworth Miller, came out as gay in August 2013, when he posted a letter on GLAAD’s website declining an invitation to attend the Saint Petersburg International Film Festival. This was because he felt “deeply troubled” by the Russian government’s treatment of its gay citizens.
