The Maid of Honour is the Bride’s right-hand girl on the wedding day. She is responsible for ensuring the bride is well taken care of on her big day.

A maid of honour is like the go-to girl or personal assistant of the bride on her wedding day.

If you have been a maid of honour before, you can relate to how hectic the duties that come with this role are.

Below are five essential duties of the Maid of Honour on the wedding day.

1. Ensure the bride eats

The morning of the wedding can be a very busy one with the bride getting her hair and makeup done.

Some brides simply forget to eat and she needs the energy for the day. It is the duty of the maid of honour to make sure she eats her food.

2. Assist the bride with her dress

It’s no small task to assist the bride as she gets into possibly the most elaborate gown she’ll ever wear in her life. You’ll want to be certain everything is laid out in advance, from undergarments to shoes to jewellery.

When the bride has successfully worn her beautiful gown, be prepared to help her into and out of the bathroom in the hours before the wedding, as there will be a lot of lifting, fluffing, and rearranging involved.

3. Keep her wedding ring safe

During the ceremony, typically it’s one of the duties of the ring bearer to hold onto the wedding bands until its time for vows to be exchanged.

But there’s a good chance you’ll be in charge of safekeeping the precious rings at some point on the big day, so be sure to guard that thing with your life!

4. Act as her personal bodyguard

If there are family members or friends that you know can stress out the bride, it’s your job to keep them on the sidelines and away from the bride as best you can.

5. Be there for her 24/7

The reason you were chosen to be her maid of honour in the first place is that she trusts you, loves you, and knows she can count on you.

Which is exactly why she wants you right by her side on this ultra-important (and incredibly emotional) day.

Amid all of the action, don’t lose sight of your number one priority: the bride.

Focus on being present for her, holding anything she wants close to her including her cell phone and some touch-up makeup.
