It seems real-life Barbie has married Ken, her lover. After less than a year of dating, rapper Nicki Minaj has tied the knot with her boyfriend, Kenneth Petty.
The Trinidad and Tobago-born rapper made the announcement on Monday night, 21st October 2019. She did this by sharing a video on her Instagram page. The video showed off matching “Mr and Mrs” mugs and “Bride” and “Groom” baseball caps.
She captioned the post, “Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty 10•21•19.”
The rapper also changed her Twitter name to Mrs Petty.
Last month, the “Megatron” rapper shocked her fans by announcing her retirement. In a tweet, she wrote, “I’ve decided to retire and have my family.”
During an episode of Queen Radio, in June 2019, Nicki Minaj said that she and Kenneth Petty had received their marriage license. They received it from a Beverly Hills courthouse.
She explained:
“We did get our marriage license. I think I have what I was striving for, just happiness. It was so hard to get to a happy place. Now that I’m there I don’t want to compromise that for anyone of anything. Certain travelling things I don’t wanna do it. I’m just enjoying my downtime.”
The pair reportedly started dating last year. However, they became official in December. They first dated when Minaj was only 16 and living in Queens.
Minaj’s romance with Petty has been a cause for constant backlash from fans as a result of Petty’s criminal records. Kenneth Petty was convicted of attempted r**e in 1995. He also has a first-degree manslaughter conviction in 2006 in the fatal 2002 shooting of a man named Lamont Robinson. For this, he served seven years of a 10-year sentence.
