“We Don’t Think It Would Be Wise To Take This Risk” – Elon Musk On Crew Dragon Launch

After the cancellation of Thursday’s launch, Elon Musk has hinted that the Crew Dragon spacecraft could have still taken off but the risks were unnecessary. He also made statements regarding the probability of Saturday’s launch.

 

Early on Saturday 30th May 2020, NASA Commercial Crew had Tweeted regarding the launch later in the day. It had said that both NASA and SpaceX have continued planning toward a launch attempt of the Crew Dragon mission. It had added:

 

“Although the weather models for Saturday show an improvement in conditions, teams continue to monitor launch and down range weather.”

 

In response to the above, Elon Musk who is CEO of SpaceX had said: “Proceeding with countdown today, weather cancellation risk ~50%”.

After this initial revelation, Musk had again taken to his Twitter to reply to a Tweet implying that the Russian Soyuz was stronger than SpaceX’s Falcon/Dragon spacecraft. The Tweet had said:

 

 

Elon Musk had said in reply: “Falcon/Dragon are designed to withstand multiple lightning strikes, but we don’t think it would be wise to take this risk”
