Vlogger Sisi Ope Opens Up About Her Battle With Sickle Cell

In honour of the Sickle Cell Month, June, Sisi Ope opens up about living with sickle cell. In this latest vlog post, she talks about what inspired her decision to speak about it.

 

Talking about the misconceptions people have concerning Sickle Cell Anemia, she narrates her own experience. In the over one hour post, Sisi Ope talks about everything and anything related to Sickle Cell Anemia. According to her, it’s been a roller-coaster ride so far.

 

In the vlog titled “I have Sickle Cell Anemia,” there is a lot of exposure about what goes on in the lives of those living with Sickle Cell.

The United Nations set aside 19th June for World Sickle Cell awareness day. This was done in order to raise public knowledge and awareness of the struggles of those living with cell disease.

 

It is a genetic abnormality which affects the red blood cells. The red blood cells take a crescent or “sickle” and stiff shape rather than the normally round and flexible form. This causes the blood cells responsible for moving oxygen around the body to stop moving freely.

 

There are over 300,000 children around the world who are born with SCD.
