In the latest sneak peek into the metaverse, Mark Zuckerberg and Olympic medalists show off how the tech mixes the virtual and real world.

Meta CEO has pitched his tent with a digital world and has placed all bets on it. Despite the skepticism from other tech leaders, it appears that the Facebook founder will not be dissuaded.

In a new video, Zuckerberg showed just how well the metaverse already works, even in the fine art of fencing.

“Fencing in the metaverse with Olympic gold medalist and world’s #1 ranked Lee Kiefer and 2x Olympic medalist Gerek Meinhardt. Using our new high-end VR headset coming out next month with mixed reality — meaning you can see virtual objects (like your friends fencing) alongside the physical world around you,” the tech CEO had said about the video.

The headset being teased here is likely the one nicknamed Project Cambria, which Meta has been working on for quite some time. A Techradar report claimed that the official name would be Oculus Quest Pro, further amplifying the rumours that it is supposed to replace the original Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 gears.

With a reveal date of October 11 on hand, you will likely see more details about the high-end VR headset in the coming days.

Besides the dystopian-inspired fear that some may have concerning the metaverse, the company also faces competition. For example, Sony PlayStation VR 2 is being touted to be able to do almost the same thing, like eye-tracking and realistic feedback, although it does not offer mixed reality features. Then, there is the Apple headset, which the company has not admitted to making, but that is rumoured to be on its way.

Zuckerberg’s Meta is still relatively a newbie in hardware making and selling, and it would likely have to do more than it has done in the past if it hopes to beat sales monsters like Sony and Apple at the game. Otherwise, it may end up building the next internet infrastructure and lose out on the hardware sales sector. It could go the same way its social media innovation went, where it was relegated to making revenue from just the software, whereas Apple, Samsung, and other smartphone makers reaped the benefit in hardware sales.
