“The bee’s s**t or vomit has become the human’s feast. What’s so bad with that?”
– Sarah Ifidon

Well, honey is as edible as it comes, even if the thought of where it originates from might not be so appealing. Its health benefits exceed being the perfect sugar supplement. It has now become a skin care regime for almost anyone who cares to try something new. According to legend, even Cleopatra adopted this as a beauty arsenal.

Honey is the new and improved skin and hair care supplement that exceeds all the chemical-infused products. Why drown your skin and hair in products with weird chemical ingredients when you can go the safe route with what actually works? Even more so, with the raw and unpasteurised honey, you’d experience a magical switch from bland to fab!

It’s vital that the honey you use still contains its healthy bacteria to be effective. This will activate your immune system and help with inflammation and redness, as well as heal blemishes.

Why you should use honey

  • It’s full of antioxidants, which are good for wrinkles and ageing skin.
  • It clarifies skin by opening up and unclogging pores.
  • It is antibacterial, which helps with acne treatments and prevention.
  • Also, it’s a great moisturiser that soothes irritation and blemishes.
  • Honey leaves a lovely afterglow.

How to use honey

Get your scented candles ready because the following recipes will get your home-spa dreams at work.

4. Yummy body scrub

Body scrubs help exfoliate your skin. Honey gives it the added advantage of moisturising it. There are some body scrubs you purchase that have a thousand ingredients. However, you know it’s just a mixture of honey, sugar and something else. Check out our recipes that will save you from that deception.

First recipe

  • Mix honey with sugar and ground almonds until it forms a rough paste.
  • Use to scrub your face in a circular motion. You can also scrub your body.
  • Leave for 10-15 minutes.
  • Rinse with warm water.

Second recipe

  • Mix 2 parts honey with 1 part baking soda.
  • Rub into your face.
  • You can also use for your entire body.

5. Use as a facial cleanser

Honey is good at unclogging pores and dissolving makeup residue. The best way to get the best result is to mix with a few drops of essential oil (tea tree or lemon oil). Use the mixture to spread all over your face, then rinse with water.
