Use these 3 security measures to safeguard your Zoom meetings

While zoombombing may have faded from being the trendy thing, Zoom calls can still be a target of intruders, but here are three ways to safeguard videoconferencing meetings.

Unique meeting ID and password

Although Zoom automatically generates a password for accounts that can be used for meetings (embedded in links). However, using these links, while convenient, exposes your meeting ID. Thus, just about anyone can join these meetings.

To stop this from happening, you can do the following just after you have scheduled a Zoom meeting:

Click on Meeting ID and select Generate Automatically, which gives you a unique ID for that particular meeting instead of using your personal one. Next, you can either go with the assigned passcode or change it.

This way, you keep your meetings private and safe.

Waiting room

Using Zoom waiting rooms means that you get to vet who joins your call meeting or not. Of course, this security step has been common for many Zoom users since the beginning of the pandemic lockdown and restrictions. Yet, some don’t recognise its security advantages and remove the waiting room option. If you are in the habit of doing this, please stop it.

Lock meeting

Locking your meeting is a great way to secure Zoom calls. This security measure works well when you know everyone that needs to be in the meeting. Click the Security link at the bottom of the videoconferencing call and select Lock Meeting. Remember that if you activate this feature, no one can enter the meeting again, even with the meeting link, ID and password.

Other things you can do to enhance security include unchecking the Share Screen option and kicking out anyone causing disturbances.
