It appears US President Donald Trump is not a fan of swipe gestures. Trump took a swipe at Apple chief Tim Cook with a tweet, lamenting about the removal of the iPhone home button.
He tweeted, “To Tim: The Button on the iPhone was FAR better than the Swipe!”

Trump switched from an Android mobile to an iPhone in March 2017, the same year Apple dropped the physical home button from its top models. However, we can’t tell if he upgraded to the iPhone XS, iPhone XR, or one of the iPhone 11 variants. All we know is that it definitely had a home button since the iPhone X wasn’t out at that time. The home button was last seen on the iPhone 8 before Apple switched it for the edge-to-edge design in their anniversary iPhone X in 2017.
This earlier shift seemed to be the target of presidential ire, rather Apple’s latest iPhone 11 release in September.
It is not the first time Trump has cast a critical eye over the tech giant’s design choices. n September 2013, he tweeted, “I cannot believe that Apple didn’t come out with a larger screen iPhone. Samsung is stealing their business. STEVE JOBS IS SPINNING IN GRAVE.”
It also comes after a gaffe in March 2019 when he referred to Cook as “Tim Apple”. Trump later claimed the naming was deliberate and a “time saving” measure.
Apple’s rumoured iPhone SE 2 will reportedly look like an iPhone 8. This means it will have the home button the US president misses so much. Perhaps Trump will be the first in line for the new Apple iPhone.
