Uber and Omio bring train, bus bookings in the UK

Uber train and bus launches in the UK

Uber is testing train and bus booking in the UK, so, don’t b surprised to see the app offering ground travel options. The company had announced the plan earlier this year.

In an announcement by the company’s UK GM Andrew Brem, the new product is launching to coincide with summer. It will allow ‘door-to-door travel experience’ throughout the UK.

To achieve this feat, Uber is working with Omio, a travel company that is available in 37 countries. Omio already has its own travel app. However, it developed a B2B API for its partner, which allows them leverage its transport network.

Engadget points out that Omio has other partners like LNER ad Kayak, but the company says that its Uber partnership is different.

“Uber is the first partner that is both at this scale but also the first that gets access to our full ticketing API so you actually are, as a customer, able to do everything within the Uber app,” Omio CEO and founder Narem Shaam explained.

Uber will begin offering international train travels to users in the UK and they can book directly from its app. Omio will earn a commission from bookings done on Uber’s platform and will get paid for the license to its tech.

While the companies did not disclose just how much Omio would be making out of this deal, it could be pretty huge. In addition to monetary value, it hopes to use Uber’s influence as a springboard to enter the UK market.
