Twitter edit feature comes with a limit that makes sense

The newly introduced Twitter edit feature has been revealed to come with a five-time edit limit in addition to its 30-minute time limit.

Although only available for paying Twitter Blue subscribers, the edit feature could make its way to everyone soon. So, it is important to know that there are limits to the feature, even if not all of us can enjoy it now.

The limit that Twitter is applying makes sense because the edit feature is mainly for correcting typos and not changing opinions. So, you get the 30 minutes to spot the error and five tries to correct it.

Additionally, it is also useful for adding tags or uploading media files that should have gone out with the original Tweet.

Twitter is still testing how users engage with the feature and TechCrunch claimed that the limits could change depending on what the observations tell the product team.

Twitter Blue users in New Zealand are the first set of people to get the edit feature before it comes to others in Australia, Canada and the US.

Understandably, there are concerns about how changing its founding principles of “once its out there, it is out there” could affect the Twitter experience. And there are also worries that it could be used to spread misinformation .

However, the company has done what it considers its best by adding an ‘edit history’ button to edited Tweets. It is left for users to take advantage of it and not just jump to conclusion with half stories.
