The latest news from Twitter is that the account that tracks its new owner’s, Elon Musk, private jet has been banned. According to Jack Sweeney, who runs the @ElonJet account, the page was suspended on Wednesday morning.
It is not clear what rules the account violated but the action came some days after it had been shadow banned. Sweeney had tweeted that he received info from an employee at Twitter that showed the company’s VP, Ella Irwin, asking the account to have heavy visibility filtering.

The entire episode goes against everything Musk had said when he officially took over Twitter. “My commitment to free speech extends even to not banning the account following my plane, even though that is a direct personal safety risk,” the tech billionaire had said about a month ago, parading himself as a symbol of freedom of speech.
Musk’s jet is not the only one that Sweeney follows as he has written his bots to follow jets owned by Russia’s Putin, Bill Gates, celebrities, the UAE government, sport organisations, and more. Where applicable, they show the amount of CO2 emissions caused by these flights.
For now, it appears that only @ElonJet, which is the most followed, has been suspended. However, there is a sister account still active on Instagram.
