Apple is moving the production of some of its AirPods Pro to Vietnam. AirPods Pro typically has a message on its casing that indicates the country it was manufactured in.

The message on all the casings usually read “Assembled in China” until now as some read, “Assembled in Vietnam”. Nikkei had reported that the production had begun in March 2020.

“The mass production of ‌AirPods‌ in Vietnam started as early as in March a person familiar with the matter said. The Vietnamese officials even granted special permits for a key Apple ‌AirPods‌ assembler to help the company bring in engineers to the country for smooth production during lockdowns. Vietnam began easing some lockdown measures in late April,” Nikkei said at the time.

A Twitter user posted his AirPods Pro showing the new inscription, with other users also confirming it.

The shift is perhaps one of the effects of the trade war between the US and China and the COVID-19 pandemic. The trade war meant that Apple’s products may suffer increased tariffs forcing the company to seek ways to cut costs.

This is not the first Apple product it will be assembling in Vietnam, its older audio accessory like wired EarPods have been long produced in the country. Rumours also have it that some of Apple’s over-ear “AirPods Studio” headphones will be produced in Vietnam.

Additionally, Apple may extend the production of some iPhones to the country. Digitimes reports that Apple has asked its ‌iPhone‌ manufacturing partners to expand their production capacity in India and Vietnam.
