Top 10 richest Indian tech CEOs

Sundar Pichai of Google parent company, Alphabet, is the richest tech CEO of Indian origins, see other CEOs in the top 10 list.

10. George Kurian – NetApp ($22 million)

George Kurian is the CEO of American Cloud data hybrid company NetApp Inc. Interestingly, his twin brother, Thomas Kurian, is the CEO of Google Cloud. George started his tech career as the vice president at content delivery network Akamai Technologies. Then, he moved on and was hired as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company. Before joining NetApp, he led the Software Engineering and Product Management teams at Oracle Corporation.

9. Arvind Krishna – IBM ($50 million)

Arvind Krishna has worked all of his life at IBM, starting at the company’s Thomas J. Watson Research Center in 1990. He was notably instrumental in IBM buying Red Hat and was promoted to the role of Senior Vice President in 2015. He has been managing IBM Cloud & Cognitive Software and IBM Research divisions.

8. Parag Agrawal – Twitter ($50 million)

Parag Agrawal is the newly appointed CEO of Twitter, and his first major crisis is notably taking on Elon Musk. He was part of research internships at Microsoft Research and Yahoo! Research before Twitter hired him in 2011. He was appointed as chief technology officer (CTO) of the social media company in 2017.

7. Sanjay Mehrota – Micron Technology ($60 million)

Sanjay Mehrota is the CEO of Micron Technology, a computer memory and storage device producer. He had co-founded SanDisk, and served as president and CEO until Western Digital bought it. He had also worked in managerial positions at Integrated Device Technology, SEEQ Technology, Intel, and Atmel.

6. Nikesh Arora – Palo Alto ($300 million)

Nikesh Arora is the CEO of cybersecurity firm, Palo Alto Networks. He had led the establishment of T-Motion, a subsidiary within Deutsche Telekom, before T-Mobile absorbed it as one of their services. Arora worked at Google and left in 2014 when he was senior vice president and chief business officer. He was president and chief operating officer of SoftBank Corp, and remains on the board of T-Mobile, Airtel, and others.

5. Ajay Banga – Mastercard ($400 million)

Ajay Banga started as an employee of Nestle back in the 1980s before getting a job at PepsiCo. He spearheaded Pepsi’s Indian expansion and lead Citi’s strategy in the microfinance sector worldwide. Banga was elected chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in 2020. After serving as the chief operating officer (COO) at Mastercard, he was appointed as CEO as well as president and board member of the company.

4. Shantanu Narayen – Adobe ($400 million)

Shantanu Narayen was appointed as chairman, president, and chief executive officer (CEO) of Adobe Inc. in December 2007. He was in senior management positions at Apple from 1989 to 1995. He worked at Silicon Graphics and co-founded Pictra Inc., a company that lead the concept of digital photo sharing on the Internet.

3. Satya Nadella – Microsoft ($420 million)

Satya Nadella is the executive chairman and CEO of Microsoft, roles he got in 2014 and 2021, respectively. He had been the executive vice president of Microsoft’s cloud and enterprise group, and was in charge of building and running the company’s computing platforms. Nadella joined Sun Microsystems as a technology staff before joining Microsoft in 1992, he has been there since then.

Jayshree Ullal is the president and CEO of cloud networking company, Arista Networks. She had worked at Cisco for 15 years, within which she grew the company’s Cisco Catalyst switching business from infancy to $5 billion valuation (1993 to 2000) and oversaw more than 20 acquisitions in the enterprise sector. Ullal had began her career at at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Fairchild Semiconductor before moving to Ungermann-Bass, and then to Crescendo Communications. She has been with Arista Networks since 2008 and is a board member.

Sundar Pichai joined Google in 2004 after a stint at Applied Materials and McKinsey & Company. He led the product management and innovation teams for Google Chrome, Chrome OS, and Google Drive. He also oversaw the development of Gmail and Google Maps, and overtook the running of Android. He was appointed Alphabet CEO in 2015, shortly after the company was formed to hold the entire Google group of companies.
