Tiwa Savage and Mavin Records have settled out of court with singer Danny Young.
In October, Nigerian musician Olumiyiwa Danlada, known as Danny Young, filed a suit against former Mavin Queen Tiwa Savage over alleged copyright infringement.
He claimed the sum of ₦205 million in damages against the singer. The suit also affects Mavin Records, founded by Don Jazzy, under which the singer released the song in question.
However, Danny Young has reached an out-of-court settlement with Tiwa Savage, whom he filed a ₦205 million copyright suit against over her song, ”One”.
In a statement signed by his lawyers, the singer commended Tiwa’s management “for committing in good faith, time and efforts.”
The statement partly read:
“Mutual efforts in this regard have been successful and our client and the defendants, Tiwa Savage and Mavin Records, have come to a common understanding and agreed on the terms for the discontinuation of the suit. Therefore we shall no longer be proceeding with the court action.”
The singer had claimed that Tiwa copied his 2009 single, ”Oju Tiwon” in her 2018 single titled, ”One”.

However, both parties considered an out-of-court settlement for the first time at a Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos on 6th November 2019.
Danny Young’s lawyer, Justin Ige, informed the court that the respondents (Tiwa Savage and Mavin Records) reached out to his client. They requested that the case settles out of court.
Although Danny Young has been missing in action in recent times, he was a big player in the Nigerian music scene a few years back.
Good to know that these artists have reached a common understanding and agreed to settle out of court.
