Popular RnB musician Timi Dakolo has lent his voice on the issue of abuse against children. The father and husband took to his Instagram page to advise people from abusing the children that stay with them.

He advised that people should not treat children that stay with them poorly. Who knows; these children may be the ones to assist them in the future.

This message comes at a time when child abuse is on the increase. Underage children are treated badly after made to work as maids in homes. These children are made to work under harsh conditions, beaten, and even starved in the process.

In December, a video of a lady named Amaka Otolehi showed beating her underage maid, Peace Geowan, aggressively.

At the time of her arrest, she was seen crying on video, as she revealed that what happened was just a little misunderstanding with her maid. According to her, they have been living in love all the while. She has since been remanded in a correctional centre in Enugu, alongside Peace’s uncle believed to have brought her from Jos to live with Mrs Amaka.

We hope that people will take this word of advice from Timi Dakolo and put an end to child abuse in Nigeria. Policies should also be put in place to stop people from getting underage maids. Finally, perpetrators of child abuse should be brought to book.
