TikTok Tests New Feature That Allows Users To Tip Creators On Its App

TikTok is testing a new feature that allows its users to tip creators directly through their profiles. Creator Jera Bean noticed the new feature on his profile and from the look of things TikTok won’t be making any cuts.

There are some requirements to qualify for the new feature, according to the Jera Bean screenshot. Creators will have to have at least 100,000 followers, be an adult, and agree to TikTok’s tips terms and conditions. Afterwards, they can apply for approval and wait for results.

TikTok recently tested a “TikTok Stories” feature. Other social media platforms are using “Stories” nowadays; including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Snapchat. Except for Twitter, after it killed off Fleets because it was not driving engagement in the way the company had planned.

The feature was spotted by multiple users on Twitter, and appears to be simply called “TikTok Stories”. Users share content that is visible to their followers for 24 hours before it is automatically deleted. The content is typically accessible via a sidebar and followers have the ability to interact with it.

As of now, users who do have the capability enabled in their app can click on the “create” button on the sidebar and share media content with the usual frills such as captions, text, and music.

However, only videos were shared via TikTok at the beginning, not images, which is understandable given the video-first nature of the platform. TikTok’s new creator’s tip feature allows users to support their favourite creators. We believe a global release isn’t far off. The minimum amount to tip is currently at $1 and non-followers can also tip other creators.
