Having a destination wedding can be a beautiful idea, especially when you, the love of your life, alongside a few friends and family travel outside the shores of your country to take your vows.
In a destination wedding, the ceremony can take place on the beach, or an exotic location. Well, a lot of people fancy destination weddings and would do anything to have one.
While some would give up their dream of having a destination wedding due to the cost of flying guests overseas, others already have their minds made up since they have the financial ability to foot the bills.
So if you are considering a destination wedding, here are the pros and cons you know about.
Let’s start with the pros.
— Your choices are limitless and the wedding cost cheaper in some countries.
With destination weddings, you can have your wedding in almost any country. The choice is fabulous. Of course, there are many factors to consider but if you want a particular location, the world is your oyster.
If you’ve travelled to many countries, you will know about the cost of living. In some countries, you can dine out every night because the prices are so reasonable. In such countries, it’s possible to have a wedding for a much more reasonable cost than here at home.
— Your guest list is very selective and it’s easier to have a small wedding
By choosing an overseas location, you will reduce the guest list to a minimal. This can be a disadvantage but also an advantage. You are able to invite a select number of guests, thereby saving some money.
— Using a local wedding planner saves you time and stress
You will benefit from a reputable and expert wedding planner who resides where you are to hold your wedding. They will know the best deals and venues. They will speak the language and be able to work better with the vendors. It’ll also save you stress.

But there are cons, too:
— People you want to attend may not be able to afford the cost of travelling
You have family and friends who would love to attend your wedding but can’t handle the travelling cost. They may not have a passport and may not be able to be away for that amount of time. With a local wedding, most of your guests hop in their car, arrive, enjoy the wedding and then drive home again that same day. No one can do with a destination wedding.
— It’s not a one-day event.
Usually, destination weddings would involve hotel accommodations for the couple and their invited guests. Some hotels may offer discounts due to the number of guests expected. It will cost a fortune nevertheless.
— The paperwork can be messy.
Every country has paperwork for marriages. Some countries have more forms than others. And if you are legally married in another country, changing your name when you get back is not as easy as when you got married on your home soil.
If you can afford a destination wedding then go for it, but if it will eat deep into your finances then forget about the idea. There will be opportunities to have vacations abroad later on in your marriage.
