Singer Teni has debunked rumors that she survived a kidnap attempt in Rivers State.
Teni had fled the stage in a hurry after gunshots were fired into the air while she performed in Buguma Town, Asari-Toru LGA of the state over the weekend.
In the video shared on the internet, pandemonium broke out while the singer after gunshots rang in the air. Teni was quickly hustled off the stage by her bouncers as people fled the venue, bringing the show to an abrupt end.

Many reported that the gunshots were attempts to kidnap the “For You” singer, news that she’s now dispelled.

Taking to her Instagram stories, Teni said a fight had started behind the stage which caused a stampede.
“It all happened so fast. There was no incidence of attempted kidnap. A fight started out backstage and that led to a stampede,” she wrote.
“(It) could have been a different story entirely but I’m grateful to God. Myself and entire team are safe and back home now. Thanks for the calls and messages,” she had said.
The state police command also said they’ve commenced an investigation into the incident.
“The command has started an investigation into the incident to ascertain what really happened,” Grace Iringe-Koko, the command’s acting spokesperson, said.
“The police division there in Buguma has been mandated to fish out those behind the attack. We will ensure they are brought to book”
