The United States Govt To Distribute Over 400 Million Free N95 Masks

The United States government says it will be distributing over 400 million free N95 masks amidst the growing omicron virus spread.  The White House disclosed this information over a tweet, saying it will source the facial masks from Strategic National Stockpile. The United States government made the bold move after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that cloth masks don’t provide adequate protection against the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, the N95 and KN95 masks are made with several layers of resistant materials with better filtration than cloth masks. Also, the N95 masks fit more snuggly than cloth masks, according to the CDC.

The White House plans to distribute these N95 masks across tens of thousands of local health centres and local pharmacies across the country. The CDC had previously advised in April 2020 that people in the US wear “simple cloth coverings” instead of surgical and N95 masks. This was to allow the more functional masks available for healthcare workers during the heat of the Coronavirus.
