TD Africa Limited, Africa’s leading technology distribution company, has announced the date for her annual empowerment initiative. In previous years TD Africa has empowered the girl child in collaboration with global tech brands. The CSR team at TD Africa has decided to beam its rays on female entrepreneurs in the new financial year, with a new initiative called “The HERwakening”. The event will hold on International Women’s Day 2022 (March 8th) at TD Africa’s head office in Victoria Island, Lagos. Global and local trends have shown that more women are actively leading and starting up businesses. One of the highlights of 2021 is the emergence of 6 women as CEOs of top Nigerian banks.
Within the IT ecosystem – an ever-growing industry, we have also experienced increased female participation. However, there are immense untapped opportunities. With the right investment and collaborations, we can see a rise in the quantity and quality of female entrepreneurs.
From 2019, TD Africa has picked the International Girls in ICT day to empower the girl child every year. In partnership with tech brands, they are given a learning platform and the tools to learn.
Building on this existing initiative, the company is setting out to empower female entrepreneurs in the tech space by onboarding them as partners with access to premium products at prices that will enable them to be competitive, and where applicable, support their businesses with credit facilities.
Profitable Venture
Speaking to a Plat4om representative, CEO of TD Africa and convener of the HERwakening initiative, Mrs. Chioma Ekeh expressed her hopes for the mass awakening of African women.
“I’ve said this before and would not tire of saying it until our reality aligns with the truth. The strength of a nation lies in the socio-economic security of its women; this is something Africa must accept. Moreover, empowering a woman is equipping a community, and ultimately, the entire economy. You know a woman would naturally pass on her resources through diverse channels – no matter how little the resources, a woman can make much out of it. Talking about profitable ventures, investing in women is a wise move for sure!” she declared.

“The theme for this year’s edition is – Dear Woman, Own Your Space, and we were very intentional in selecting it. Indeed, it is time for the Nigerian woman to recognise and fully occupy her place in the development and enjoyment of our industries.” Mrs. Ijogun remarked.
Keynote Speakers and Programme
One of the keynote speakers at the 2022 edition of The HERwakening is Obis Ora, an award-winning brand influencer who has created a community of over 116,000 women from different backgrounds.
Also speaking is Ola Williams, a business leader with over 20 years of experience in the Information Technology Industry. In addition, there will be an interactive panel discussion during which participants can pose relevant questions to the various subject matter experts in attendance.
Other speakers expected to be at the event include Dr. Ebere Njoku (Founder, Wholesome Inspirations), Teju Ajani (Managing Director Nigeria, Apple Inc) and senior executives from Access Bank.
