Texas shooting: Netflix adds content warning to Stranger Things Season 4 premiere

Following the Texas shooting and its resemblance to the opening of Stranger Things 4, Netflix is adding a content warning to the premiere. The production company added the message:

“We filmed this season of Stranger Things a year ago. But given the recent tragic shooting at a school in Texas, viewers may find the opening scene of episode 1 distressing. We are deeply saddened by this unspeakable violence, and our hearts go out to every family mourning a loved one.”

The first episode, titled “Chapter One: The Hellfire Club,” started with a memory of a functioning Hawkins National Laboratories before unfolding into a horrific massacre scene of the gifted children. After watching the scene, it is quite easy to see why the trigger warning Netflix attached to it is important.

However, by comparison, Lucasfilm (and by extension, Disney) failed to attach a warning (nor a statement after) to the Obi-Wan Kenobi premiere, despite it also opening with scenes of children being murdered in a school setting.

Although the series had been completed over a year before the incident, the similarities between the scenes and the real life incident is quite disturbing.

21 people – two teachers and 19 students – were killed in the attack at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. You can read details of the incident here: What we know about the victims of the Uvalde school shooting.
