TikTok parent company Tencent is making a Need for Speed mobile game

Tencent, the company that owns TikTok, is developing a Need for Speed mobile game alongside publishers EA (Electronic Arts). The news dropped after a leaked video of the gameplay appeared on Reddit and Beebom says that the game has the working title Need for Speed Mobile 2022.

This is not the first time that the Chinese giant company and EA have come together to make a game, particularly, this car racing video game.

Nearly nine years ago, EA Korea had developed Need for Speed: Edge for Nexon (in South Korea) and Tencent Interactive Entertainment (in China). Although, its Chinese version was named Need for Speed Online. It was a free-to-play game and its mobile version was called Need for Speed: Duel.

The collaboration ended after Nexon shut down the game in 2019. Now, it appears that Tencent is hoping to resurrect what they once had.

The details we gleaned so far are that the game could include only three cars – the McLaren F1, the Lamborghini Aventador SVJR, and the Lamborghini Gallardo. While these are not confirmed yet, the leaked video above shows that the map looks a bit different from the previous Need for Speed: Heat and seems to copy the Need for Speed: Edge boost effect.

Additionally, rumours suggest that the game’s story deviates from the cops-chasing ideology that Need for Speed is built on. We would love to see how the developers spin this huge change when the game drops later in 2022.
