In a tweet shared via her Twitter page on Monday, 13th December 2021, the singer recounted how it felt like sitting in a Ugandan prison, calling the experience “Ugly”.

“This very day Last Year, I was sitting in prison in Uganda bonding with women and kids. I almost can’t believe the things I’ve seen so far. All I can say is God is too awesome and He will always have the last and final laugh,” she tweeted.

In December 2020, Tems was arrested alongside singer Omah Lay in Uganda. The arrest happened after they performed at an event in Kampala, Uganda. They were then hurriedly charged to court and paraded in handcuffs for allegedly holding an “unauthorised concert” and breaking Covid-19 restrictions.

Tems broke into stardom with her first hit single ”Try me” in 2019.

In July, she made her way to the Billboard Hot 100 chart with “Essence”.  “Essence” is a hit song off Wizkid’s 2020 “Made In Lagos” album. She also boasts of a collaboration with Canadian rapper Drake.

While in a previous interview with Africa Now Radio, Tems said she owes her success in the music industry to God even though she is talented and has a great sound.
