Teenage Twitter hacker, Graham Ivan Clark, has pleaded guilty to last year’s bitcoin scam attack that took over dozens of high-profile accounts, according to court documents filed in a Florida court. Clark was 17 at the time but will now serve three years in prison as part of his plea deal according to The Tampa Bay Times.

Part of the deal will see Clark credited with 229 days of time served since his arrest last summer last year. He’s being sentenced as a “youthful offender,” lessening his prison time. This means that he could serve some of his sentence at a boot camp, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Clark also cannot use computers without permission or supervision from law enforcement for the period.

On 15th July 2020, Twitter experienced a large-scale security breach with accounts belonging to high-profile users like Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, and Joe Biden were taken over in quick succession. The accounts then promoted a bitcoin scam which Clark used to swindle the unsuspecting of more than $100,000 in the cryptocurrency.

The Teenage twitter hacker reportedly carried out the hack alongside two others he allegedly met on an online username-selling forum called OGusers. There have also been numerous reports detailing their use of internal Twitter tools. The internal tools, which are capable of resetting account email addresses, gave Clark and the rest control of the accounts to send out tweets soliciting the public for bitcoin.

Clark’s arrest took place at his home in Hillsborough, Florida shortly after the hack. The authorities also charged his two partners, Nima Fazeli of Orlando and Mason Sheppard of the UK, with federal crimes.
