Spotify Will Let Parents Share Playlists They’ve Created On The Kids App

Spotify is widening parental controls for its standalone Kids app that launched in 2019. The firm announced a new feature called Shared Playlists, which lets parents share playlists that they’ve created with their children.

Since the app is designed for children, all content on the platform is filtered and handpicked to ensure that it is appropriate for children aged three and above. The new feature allows kids to access content that lives outside these walls; however, parents will decide what music their kids can access.

To share a playlist with children, parents need to access the password-protected settings of the Kids app. The playlist is required to be created by a parent. Spotify recommends that parents review the contents of the playlist for inappropriate content like explicit tracks, which will be marked with an ‘E’. Any change to the playlist after sharing will sync with the Kids app. The first time parents share a playlist, a pop-up screen will appear asking to confirm the action.

Once added, children can access the playlist on their homepage from a new “Shared with You” section. Parents reserve the choice to remove the shared playlist by revisiting the parental settings in the Spotify Kids app.
