Spotify disclosed late last month its plan to expand to 80 new markets with a major focus on Africa and the Middle East. The expansion would provide access to the music streaming platform’s Free and Premium tiers for all consumers in those territories.
As a part of that announcement, Spotify also promised to bring support for 36 additional languages. Today, the company made good on that promise with the rollout of that language expansion on mobile.
Spotify can now be accessed in Afrikaans, Amharic, Azerbaijani, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Bulgarian, Simplified Chinese, Croatian, Danish, Estonian, Filipino, Gujarati, Hindi, Icelandic, Kannada, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Norwegian, Odia, Persian, Portuguese for Portugal, Eastern Punjabi, Western Punjabi, Romanian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swahili, Tamil, Telugu, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Zulu. Today’s announcement expands the platform’s availability to more territories.

The platform was also launched on some of those markets last year, including Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, and Ukraine. Other countries that were part of that expansion were Russia, Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, and North Macedonia.
The company also said the latest rollout complements its efforts to build a “truly borderless audio ecosystem”. It announced in February a new subscription tier featuring lossless audio quality on compatible devices. The new tier is called Spotify HiFi; with support for smartphones and other devices with the Spotify app onboard as well as speakers that support Spotify Connect.
