Expensive quick charging devices are becoming more popular but Qualcomm has announced that it will be rolling out the Quick Charge 3+ feature for mid-range and affordable smartphones.
If one has been following recently released smartphone trends, it is impossible to miss the superfast charging features. While people were content with strong batteries in the past, they want more.
A durable battery will become unimpressive if you have to wait for your phone to charge fully for four hours. While charging time is reducing drastically as chip makers keep creating faster-charging features, it usually has one obstacle: high pricing.
Like the OnePlus 8, we recently talked about, we saw that it cost around $899 (NGN346,115) and it has a charging capacity of 30W. While the price is not only due to the fast charging ability, there is a clear price difference between phones featuring above 18W charging capacities.
However, according to recent reports, Qualcomm is about to bridge this price gap. The company which has already made Quick Charge 4+ announced that its Quick Charge 3+ is coming to affordable smartphones.
On Monday, 27th April 2020, the tech firm said, as Hindustan Times reported:
“With Quick Charge 3+’s faster charging and affordability, there’s now the opportunity to enrich lives around the world with the convenience of Quick Charge technology.”

In addition to this, it said that it will first be available Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 and Snapdragon 765G before other Snapdragon processors will get it.
Qualcomm further added that Xiaomi’s Mi 10 Lite Zoom will be the first smartphone with both Quick Charge 4+ and Quick Charge 3+ charging technology. The Snapdragon 765G will power the phone as well.
To get a better understanding of why Quick Charge 3+ charging technology has the tech world buzzing, see some of what it brings below:
— Users can charge their phones from a flat 0% to 50% in 15 minutes.
— It is 35% more efficient and 9 ºC cooler than the previous generation charge technology.
— Quick Charge 3+ supports USB Type-A to Type-C cable and other accessories.
— Backward compatibility with previous-generation Quick-Charge devices.
— Integrated cable power capability or identification
— Support for new PMICs such as SMB1395/SMB1396.
— It eliminates the need for external components and has an overvoltage protection chip and a sense resistor.
Surely, we can’t wait to get affordable smartphones that have the Qualcomm Quick Charge 3+ charging technology.
