Sony has revealed in a blog post that the PS4 DualShock 4 will not work for PS5 games. The console maker says the device will only work if you’re playing PS4 titles on the backward compatible next-gen console.

“We believe that PS5 games should take advantage of the new capabilities and features we’re bringing to the platform, including the features of DualSense wireless controller,” Isabelle Tomatis from PlayStation’s peripherals marketing division wrote.

This means that although the PS4 DualShock 4 will work on the PS5, you won’t be able to play games with it, except for a few backward compatible games. Sony hasn’t said which titles will be backward compatible yet

Sony also listed the other PS4 accessories and peripherals that will be compatible with the soon to be launched PS5. They include;

— Specialty peripherals, like the officially licensed racing wheels, arcade sticks, and flight sticks. The devices will continue to work with supported PS4 and PS5 games.

— The Platinum and Gold Wireless Headsets. Third-party headsets that connect via USB port or audio jack, will also work on PS5. The headset companion app is, however, not compatible with PS5.

— The PS Move Motion Controllers and the PlayStation VR Aim Controller will work with supported PS VR games on PS5.

Sony also notes that not all PlayStation officially licensed or third-party peripherals/accessories will be supported on the PS5 console. The company recommends that gamers check with the manufacturers to confirm compatibility with PS5 and specific titles.

The PlayStation Camera will also continue to work with PS5 for playing supported PS VR games. It will however require a PlayStation Camera adaptor that Sony will provide for free to PS VR users. The next-gen console is set to launch soon, leaving some gamers in a frenzy about which equipment they’ll be able to continue using on purchasing the PS5. Sony has now informed us of what to expect.
