Sony has announced that the PS 5 will get DVR functionality in Japan. The DVR support is coming via a new app that’ll work with its Nasne tuners.
The app is to be called Torne with its availability likely for later in the year. Torne used to be a TV tuner add-on for the PS3 that was released in 2010. It let users save broadcast shows to their console’s hard drive and then transfer them to a PSP or PS Vita.
The feature was then followed by Nasne, which added its own storage and working like a NAS drive, and the recordings available via a mobile app.

Sony had stopped selling Nasne in 2019, however, Japanese peripheral manufacturer Buffalo announced that it’d take over the product and release Buffalo-branded versions in 2020. Buffalo plans to ship the first models set to ship later this year.
The new Nasne still looks like a PS3, but now, it has a Buffalo logo on it. Buffalo is also increasing its internal storage to 2TB, and tripling its external storage capacity to 6TB.
The PlayStation DVR measures 44.5 x 135 x 187 mm in size and comes complete with a Main unit, AC adapter, LAN cable (length: 1 m), antenna cable (length: 1.5 m), miniB-CAS card, quick start guide, and a one-year warranty, per Geeky Gadgets.
It’ll go on sale later in March 2020 for around $270.
