The average human being spends a third of their lives asleep. How you sleep affects your mood, your energy, and your quality of life. 1. Activate the night light on your devices

The screens of electronic devices emit blue light that grabs your attention and helps you focus. This is a good thing, but at night, it could be very harmful. The effects of blue light on the eyes can lead to sleep deprivation and macular degeneration. Avoid this by turning on the night light feature on your devices. This cancels out blue light ensuring that you can sleep easily when you want to.

2. Put your phone on airplane mode

To sleep well, you have to get rid of all distractions. Put your phone on either airplane mode or “do not disturb”. This blocks out all calls, texts, and online messages. Whatever it is your friends and family are reaching you for can probably wait till morning. Avoid lengthy calls at night or carve out a special time for it that does not interfere with your regular sleep cycle.

3. Dim the lights

Like the point made earlier, you also have to reduce the amount of artificial light entering your eyes. Get light-bulbs that have a dimming feature so you can program your mind into sleep mode. It is not advisable to have fluorescent light-bulbs in your bedroom. Get warm yellow lights or even coloured lights to create a relaxing atmosphere for sleep.

4. Dress your bed

A lot of people roll out of bed in the morning and rush off to work without making their beds. They come home and throw themselves on their unmade beds and go straight to sleep. It seems like no big deal but sleeping on a well-made bed, or even a nice clean room, affects the quality of sleep you get. Sleeping on a cool, straight bed will help you relax and drift off faster.

5. Take a warm bath

After a long day of work, it is necessary to unwind properly. Don’t just take a quick shower, jump out, and go to bed. Take a few more minutes to get your water warm and take a relaxing bath. Warm water opens up your pores and lets your muscles relax. Bathing with warm water can even help with aches and pains.

Before you leave you should also find out how to get rid of eye bags.
