Singer Sound Sultan Dies Of Lymphoma At Age 44

Nigerian singer, songerwriter and rapper Olanrewaju Fasasi musically known as Sound Sultan is dead."Sound Sultan Doesn't Have Throat Cancer"- Baba DeeThe singer passed away on Sunday July, 11th 2021 after a protracted battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma, his family announced. He was 44.

The official family statement reads;

“It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of multi-talented singer, rapper. songwriter, Olanrewaju Fasasi aka Sound Sultan.

He passed at the age of 44 following a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma. He’s survived by his wife, three children, and his siblings.”

The statement further implored the public’s utmost privacy as they come to grips with this tragic loss.

Sound Sultan is considered one of the pioneers of Nigerian Hip Hop. He started off miming songs in secondary writing his own lyrics. Sultan would later attribute his interest in music to his big brother Dare “Baba Dee” Fasasi who studied Theatre Arts.

He released his first single Jagbajantis in 2000 which went on to be a massive hit. He was later signed to Kennis Music under which he released more hit songs.

After his contract expired in 2007, he and his brother formed their own label Naija Ninjas. In 2015, Sound Sultan released the rap single “Remember” after a long hiatus from the music scene.

Sound Sultan was first rumoured to be sick with throat cancer and receiving treatment in the US. However, he and Baba Dee quashed it firmly. Sultan even released a statement saying he would tell his story himself in due time.
