Ghanaian dancehall singer Charles Nii Mensah aka Shatta Wale has been released on bail after spending about seven days in prison.

The musician regained freedom on self-recognisance bail after his lawyers pleaded for it at the Accra circuit court on Tuesday.

The 37-year-old musician and his accomplices were thereafter asked to pay the sum of Ghc100,000 each.

The Ghanaian dancehall hall king landed in police custody on 19th October after “falsely” claiming he was attacked by gunmen.

“After we publicly declared him and one other person wanted, the suspect, Shatta Wale, turned himself in today Tuesday 19th October, 2021, at 8.59pm.

He has been arrested to assist the Police in investigations for his alleged involvement in the creation and circulation of information intended to cause fear and panic.” A statement by Ghanaian Police service read.

Shatta was charged with publication of fake news.  However, at the Accra circuit court last Thursday, he pleaded not guilty. The presiding judge subsequently adjourned the case until the next hearing set for 26th October.

Before his arrest, Shatta Wale had called for the arrest of Kwesi Appiah, the Ghanaian pastor who he claimed prophesied the gunshot attack on him.

Appiah was thereafter arrested and charged with spreading information that could cause fear and panic.  He was later released on Ghc100,000 bail with three sureties.
