1. Travel

Travelling is a great way to experience new things and widen your horizon. Your one month off work is the perfect opportunity to plan a trip. You can finally visit those places you’ve been liking on Instagram. You also get to step out of your comfort zone, learn about different cultures and widen your palette. The world is yours. You are free to fall off the map and explore!

2. Learn a skill

The average work cycle makes it a bit difficult to acquire skills that are unrelated to your job. During your leave, you can keep yourself occupied with learning all the stuff your job did not let you have time for. So go ahead and enrol for an online course. Learn a language, practise your baking skills, or take dance lessons. There is always room for self-improvement.

3. Declutter your home

For months on end, you’ve been coming home and throwing yourself on the bed in a room full of clutter. No more! It’s time to get your things together and organise your home. Donate or dispose of whatever you know you never use. Drain your life of everything that does not spark joy. And at the end of your leave, you will return to work a brand new person.

4. Attend events

You can make up for all the fun you passed up on when you were swamped with work. Go to a concert and sing along. Attend an art show or a beach party. Release your rock star vibes in a karaoke bar. You could go bar hopping with friends or go solo to a book festival. Laugh your heart out at comedy shows and bond with strangers in film theatres.

5. Read books

Replace the documents and spreadsheets on your screen with a good book. You can even ditch the screen altogether and read a hardcopy book. Reading is a way to have an adventure without leaving your house. It will also help to improve your vocabulary. You can start with the classics or pick a random book. Either way, reading is fun!

6. Volunteer

If you would still like to keep busy during your leave, there are a lot of foundations and NGOs that you could volunteer at. Charitable work helps you give back to the community and also makes you a better person. Volunteering keeps you active and is good for your heart. It is also a free way to feel good about yourself; you’re allowed to.

7. Have a spa day

Self-care is of the utmost importance during your leave. Treat yourself to a spa day and rid yourself of the bad energy and the back pain that your office chair inflicted you with. You could even pamper yourself at home by creating a calming atmosphere with candles and music. Take a long hot bath and do some yoga. Once you detoxify your life, you will feel lighter and brighter.

Make your leave from work a productive one. You’ll be better off for it and return to work re-energised. Enjoy your leave!
