See Top Ten Most Downloaded Social Media Apps On Nigeria’s Google Play Store For The Week

While short video platforms are gaining popularity world over, the already common social media apps remain top of the charts on Nigeria’s Google Play store.

In first place is WhatsApp Messenger. The app had gotten an important new feature that allows eight users at once on its group video calls. It is one of the most downloaded apps with over 5 billion downloads from Google Play store. WhatsApp remains one of the basest means of communicating over the internet worldwide.

Facebook Lite comes second. It is the lite version of Facebook’s original app and it has more than 1 billion downloads. This app is currently more popular than the Facebook app because it offers reduced data consumption and increased speed. Instagram ranks below Facebook lite but it has been getting increased downloads recently. While it also has 1 billion downloads from Google Play store, is third-place position is an improvement from last week’s.

Snapchat comes fourth. This is another social media app that has recently gone up in Nigeria’s Google Play store downloads ranking. It is one place above Telegram in the list of the top ten most downloaded social media apps for the week. Meanwhile, TikTok Lite is in sixth place.

The most surprising entrant into this list is WhatsApp Business. The business version of the popular chatting app has just over 100 million downloads. However, it is the seventh most downloaded social media app for the week on Nigeria’s Google Play store ranking.

Apps like Facebook and Messenger are below WhatsApp Business; taking eighth and ninth positions respectively. This despite Facebook having 5 billion downloads and Messenger having 1 billion downloads. The recent popularity of WhatsApp Business may be linked to the fact that users can now easily sync info from their Facebook business page to it. This likely gives them more edge in taking their businesses to the next level.

Twitter is ranked tenth in the list of top ten most downloaded social media apps on Nigeria’s Google Play store. Despite its large amount of users, it still has only 500 million downloads. A large gap between it and other social media giants on this list.
